AstroBot STEM's Introduce A Girl to Engineering Day - February 27, 2021

Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day Virtual Event is on February 27th from 1pm -5pm est via Zoom. The zoom link will be sent to the email provided the day before the event. (Do not use a school district email) The event is FREE to the first 30 Clay County girls Grades 6-12 to register, sign up by February 10th to get your tshirt and activity kit!  For girls in NE Florida or anywhere in the Continental US, you can sign up with the other location link and send.  The event is open to Girls and Girl Scouts. Sign up ASAP, space is limited! More info on the event including speakers, activities, and door prizes can be found on the Facebook pages for AstroBot STEM or AstroBot Kaitlyn between now and the event. 

We are currently seeking additional sponsors, so please check with us before paying.

Dr. Tracy Fanara

Dr. Tracy Fanara works to extend humanity’s existence on Earth through innovate collaborative solutions to world health threats all while building a sustainable future for generations to come. Tracy aims to make science a part of every citizen’s toolset. She hopes to inspire positive change and growth through education while having fun making the world a better place. She is a University of Florida graduate with a BS, ME, and PhD in Environmental Engineering (Go Gators), focusing on sustainable design, water treatment and science communication.

Tracy inspires all ages through her love for science and drive to break stereotypes, overcome obstacles, and pursue passion with hard work.  An engineer, scientist, graduate school professor, storm chaser, and TV personality (featured on Science and Discovery Channel television series, Mythbusters: The Search), she embraces opportunities that ask her to step outside of her comfort zone and encourages others to do the same. With a diverse background and holistic approach, Tracy created Inspector Planet to make science fun and accessible to everyone.

Dr. Kathleen Schofield
Dr. Kathleen Schofield works to assure equitable access to STEM2 learning across the northeast Florida region. As a liaison between the corporate community and the school systems, she brings the pulse of the needs for a 21st Century workforce as she collaborates with school districts and universities. She has successfully executed the 21st Century Northeast Florida Workforce Development program, a state appropriation, bringing access to experiences with cutting edge technologies including robotics, coding, drones and augmented reality to over 75,000 students. She worked with district leadership teams to develop and infuse innovative approaches to STEM instruction, aligned to standards, into the school day. Further, she has increased access to STEM learning experiences in the after-school setting.

Makiah Eustic
Makiah Eustice is an aerospace engineer, service member, musician, and aspiring space industry leader. She received a B.S. in Aerospace Engineering at Texas A&M University and completed the Space Studies program at the International Space University. Recently received the
24 Under 24 Leaders and Innovators in STEAM and Space Award , she has advocated for human space presence from her college town to austere environments nationwide.

She was incredibly inspired from her experience in adult Space Camp after her first year in college. Makiah joined mission support for the Mars Desert Research Station (MDRS) rotational crews that perform simulate Mars mission in Utah. She was selected for Crew 200 as Greenhouse officer in 2018 and the Mars Academy TAMUSEDS mission in 2019 as Commander. In 2020, she lived and worked in the Hawaii facility, HI-SEAS, with an All-women crew, for a grand total of 27 days in simulation. She is currently investigating effective non-verbal communication me3thods on EVA surface operations.
Makiah was selected as a Brooke Owens Fellow in 2017 and worked in systems engineering at the Aerospace Corporation. At Texas A&M, Makiah participated in the Corps of Cadets, Air Force ROTC, and SEDS (Student for the Exploration and Development of Space). She was project director of the student SEDS chapter before becoming President and founding the Aggie Astronaut Corps program.  She worked in research on shape memory alloy applications. She was also committed to outreach, doing activities with local schools and using social media as a platform for her space exploration journey. 
In the Air Force, Makiah works as a structural engineer for aircraft. She hopes to pursue human factors, flight test engineering, and space policy while supporting space analog and microgravity research in the future.
